The backyard of a kooky cat lady is one where serene flowers engross me day and night. My dirty feet planted in the wet soil where I gently sang to the garden of pansies my grandmother and I planted together. The air is crisp and dry, and the sun is hot beaming over me. Vigorously imbued by the sunlight I am a mischievous child, one who makes mudpies and plays with the foliage to make a meal. The large pot of water lilies is my inspiration, for I shall make a pot of flowers for my siblings. A giddy joy takes over me while mixing my stew of flowers and baking my mud pies. Like a witch makes her potions I too make my little siblings their own delicious concoction. Grandma is quite strict about her flowers and so I always tried to treat them preciously. Avoiding the flowers I knew she would scold me over. I was a sassy child. I spoke to the roses, and I played with the tulips and daffodils, I tried so hard to save the bluebells from the dastardly chokehold of morning glory and I made sure that the first ingredient in my stew was always the dandelions grandma told me to dig up. I never ever picked the sunflowers, and I made sure that the foxtails made it onto my sibling’s plate. Grandma would often have me take care of the garden and at some point, the garden started taking care of me.
It's easy to get lost in the flowers, they mirror what you give them. The energy, time, and care are always reflected in the quality of the plant and produce. My grandma would always remind me to tenderly care for the flowers and the garden and treat it in the most respectful way because the earth is what provides and protects us. These early teachings of care and energy have influenced me beyond art and have completely oriented the way I live. The experiences I gained of mutual exchange in the garden and true bliss and joy from my own creativity are some of my fondest memories. My work has tried to embody the energy, time, and care that I put into it. The flowers that I produce are the product of my devotion and the intensity of energy that commitment brings.
